Executive Advice: Don't lose your cool
I used to be a huge hot head. I was known for being somewhat explosive. Like most “up-and-comers” I had more passion for our company than I knew what to do with. When people made mistakes, or people didn’t get “it”(whatever “it” may have been) I would lose my cool and raise my voice. I would almost always dismiss this person’s ideas.
You really...

New URL: badexec.com
I decided that I liked the whole “bad executive” thing enough to buy badexec.com for this site. I think it’s such a funny play on words. There is such a fine line between a bad-ass and just plain bad. I think the URL is much more the former than the latter.
Anyway, http://badexec.com.

The eternal battle of light vs. dark...
I made the mistake of listening to a focus group that told me that they overwhelmingly preferred a white / light website with dark / black text over a dark site with white / light text. It was way more than 2/3 majority. It seemed, according to this group at least, one of those “no brainers”.
So we launched a white website. Super clean and bright. I loved it as did everyone who...

Executive Advice: When Eating in Other countries
joeshua:
So a little advice on world cuisine.
1) Try the local fare as it may be the only time to have something authentic. 2) be adventurous. What have you got to loose besides your lunch?. 3) Do NOT force the local fare out of the colon. You may pay dearly later. 4) Last but not least, McDonalds are everywhere and so is Burger King. Don’t worry.

Foo for Bar: Kicking Ass with Outcome-Based... →
When asked to distill everything down to [GTD’s] most powerful concepts, I came up with three, and here’s how I’d summarize each:
Outcome-Based Thinking. Articulating in the most specific terms possible what a successful outcome looks like for any given use of your time. Or as I like to put it, “How will I know when I’m done with this?”
The Next Action. Knowing that you don’t need to...

Executive Advice: family comes first
I was reminded of an important lesson tonight: your family comes first.
Make no mistake! Your time, sweat, blood, tears, thoughts, efforts and labor belong to the company…but everything else, you owe to your family. By family I mean wife, husband, partner, significant other, kids, parents…or all of the above. Keep your family happy at home and your days go faster, your reports are...

How do I make a limited profile on the New...
They changed it all around, I had to re-educate myself on how to do it. It used to be so easy, there was just a Limited Profile you could add people to. Now it’s far more complicated. Ok, you go to friends tab from your profile. On the left you will see FRIENDS LISTS, and below that a button for MAKE A NEW LIST. GO ahead and make a new list, I called mine PEOPLE I DON’T FUCKING...

F*CK, the movie
Just watched F*ck the movie. It was actually really informative. There is an deleted scene entitled “Favorite Curse Words”. I found this to be a must see piece of the movie and am baffled as to why they left it out! Hunter S. Thompson’s was PigFucker. I think that’s fairly fitting for him.

Disclaimer
What the hell am I doing here?
Mostly I think I’m trying to figure it all out just like everyone else. As a young new media executive, I realized quickly that no one really teaches you how to be a good executive. Most people fight and push incredibly hard to get there only to realize they have no idea what they are doing once they are there. Some are completely lost on what to do next...
